also. I am none of the people in this story. I promise.

One more thing, Molly and Sam will not be dating each other. Ever.

Once upon a time there was a beautiful and oh-so-talented girl named Molly. Molly was fun and witty and intelligent. She loved to learn and she loved to see new sights and hear new music.

One day, Molly reconnected with an old friend, Sam. Sam was funny and interesting. As Sam and Molly began to see more of each other, Molly developed a crush on Sam. They talked about all sorts of things, they went to the movies together and they generally enjoyed being around one another.

Soon, though, Sam began to act strange and distant. Molly assumed he must have met another girl and eventually Sam and Molly's lives headed in different directions and they began to talk less and less. This made Molly sad, but soon she was off on all sorts of awesome adventures.

Months later, Molly got a phone call from Sam. Sam missed Molly and wanted to work on being friends again. He said he wanted to make things better and would do anything to revive what they had before. Molly decided to give Sam a chance. Sam made a mix tape.

This was not your ordinary mix tape. It was dedicated to telling the story of two less than stellar relationships Sam had gone through while Molly was off having wonderfully fantastic adventures. Each song helped Sam tell Molly the story of his summer and the two girls he spent that summer with.

The first girl (we'll call her Veronica) went to school with Sam. She had quite the rebellious streak which was made apparent upon first glance with the help of several piercings adorning her face. Sam looked beyond such things and started a relationship with Veronica. Then, at some point, Sam and Veronica talked about their past relationships and Sam learned that Veronica "went to bat for the other team" (to put it nicely and keep it PG) once or twice in her past. Apparently this didn't bother Sam as much as it should and he just kept on truckin' through crazyville. Of course the magical pairing of Sam and Veronica was doomed from the start as we have yet to hear about girl #2 (we'll call her Betty).

Betty and Sam started dating after Veronica and Sam broke up. Betty was a fun gal who apparently didn't follow such societal norms as not dating several other guys while you are about to be engaged to another. Sam didn't seem to mind the fact that Betty was clearly more attached to another guy than she was to him. Once again, he just kept on truckin' and eventually Betty and Sam also broke up. The day of the break up was the day Sam called Molly.

This would lead one to ask Sam, "Why?" Why did he not see that these two girls were obviously not right for him? Why did he not end the relationships sooner? What even attracted him to them in the first place? I think we can all safely answer that last question. It was what we will call "the crazies." Sam has a thing for the crazies. Of course he didn't see how amazing and brilliant Molly was! He was distracted by his affinity for the crazies. Molly was just too normal and well-rounded.

So, after listening to Sam's story, Molly felt an enormous amount of relief and self confidence. She had dodged a big ol' giant crazy bullet. She couldn't help but smile and be happy for herself - even though Sam was still sitting with her. How could one not feel better after such a conversation? It truly wasn't her....it was him! Molly was still perfectly normal and well-rounded! Huzzah! And how could one feel gloomy about their current state of singlehood? At least she wasn't dating the crazies! Woohoo!

So there is the story of Molly and Sam. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. It's nice to know that every once in a while, you get the chance to really know and understand why some things happened the way they did. And you get some good laughs along the way.
