Back in college (and probably a little in high school as well) I, along with many of my friends, got into the habit of saying "Remember that one time..." or "Remember when..." during the course of most of our conversations. These phrases were seldom followed by the appropriate whimsical story or reminiscent tale but rather things like "Remember when we were freaking amazing?" or "Remember that one time Apartment (insert #) was the coolest?" That's right, we often reminisced about things that happened literally JUST happened (ie, "remember that one time I wrote a post about remembering things?") or about how awesome we were. That's how freaking amazing my friends and I were.
In going along with that trend, we also would create Facebook groups to commemorate our awesomeness (the most important being named "We Love Us"*). On that group we compiled a "remember when" list. On this blog post I am going to pull some of my favorites from that last as I have recently come upon it and was pulled into the depths of nostalgia**
. For easy reading and photo accompaniment, I have reorganized my favorites into groups as best I could according to time and/or people involved.
So in case any of us get amnesia...here's the "Remember When" list.
BOYS-Drew painted our mural

-Simon let Miri draw an elephant's butt on his pants
-Simon was the Flying Taco

-Jonathan and Simon taught us how to line dance according to Mike

-Simon first learned to skedaddle
-Lindsey, Joey, Simon and Miri chilled on the couch outside 177 for like two hours
-Lindsey and Miri made Andrew listen to My Turn on Earth and he almost cried
-Andrew tried on Miri's 4-inch heels
-Simon ate a pan of brownies with his face

-The boys in the ward taught Lindsey and Miri how to punch them at 2 in the morning (or, according to Todd, Jonathan taught Miri how to punch so she decided to punch everyone until her hand went numb. I think the first version is more accurate.)
-Jared's couch tried to eat him
-Andrew blew a rape whistle and Jared yelled "Wait there's a rape afoot!"
-Mandy wanted to be sisters with Nate and they made a pact
-Todd wore a white shirt, blue slacks, a black belt, green socks, and brown shoes and Miri and Megan thought he was crazy and almost died.
-Todd, Geoff, and Jared watched Pride & Prejudice and Steel Magnolias all in the same week... of their own volition and they cried like little girls.
-Simon stood up as straight as he could in front of the dangerous curves sign and the only curve was the one in where he had no bum
-Jonathan, Miri, and Megan sat out in the hall taking pictures with Jonathan's sombrero at 2 in the morning.
-Jonathan and Simon brought us back awesome presents from Mexico/California
GIRLS-The crazy Mary Kay lady thought she lost her eyebrow
-Miri and Lindsey were almost arrested for cross dressing the Indian
-Lindsey named the fire hydrant Stumpy
-Lindsey, Sam, Jennie, Melanie, Whitney, Mandy, and Miri spent the night at Sam and Jennie's house in West Jordan!

-There was a speed limit sign in the Jordan River Temple parking lot that said 10.5
-Apt 154 (+Lindsey) became the Pixie Squad
-Every five minutes Lindsey started singing "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"
-Sam made us watch Sergeant Pepper
-Jennie made a documentary on her camera about everyone's favorite color
-Miri stuck out her tongue and said aaaaaaaaaaah which = you're hot
-Miri and Lindsey held dramatic readings of "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" and "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog" to a captivated audience of college students (most of whom were engineering majors haha)
-Whitley told us she can't sleep without her snorkel (in so many words)
-Megan wore Simon's hat and shoes and it was the hottest thing since the hottest thing since soup.
--Miri and Lindsey skedaddled down University Avenue while Simon helped a stranger jump start her car (because we are super helpful)
-Miri won a game of Clue in one guess, which actually took less than five minutes
- due to her totally normal and completely rational fear of balloons - lindsey refused to step foot inside the living room of 154 during mandy's birthday party - and once one of those balloons was popped, she had to leave the entire apartment completely as the back of the apartment also contained balloons, leaving lindsey with no safe haven besides the hall where all the lights were burned out.
-Jennie poured Simon's NAPC drink into his mouth while he was lying on the floor in the hallway

- sam pretended to be dead/hurt in order to lure travis over to the apartment where we then held him hostage for his surprise birthday party and forced him to eat delicious cake
- miri and lindsey walked around the building trying to catch people with a net
EVERYONE-Groups of us took "field trips" to Barnes and Noble for some much needed retail therapy
-We all went on a Settlers craze
-We all peed blue.
-We took out our rage by drawing frosting on Toaster Strudel and eating it--happily!
-The day that we stopped knocking before entering apt. 154

THE HALL-We actually hung out in the hall
-Lindsey named Joey "Sir Joseph of the LodgeHole"
-Jonathan fell asleep first every night earning himself the title of "GeneralIfallasleepfirsteverynight"
-Miri and Lindsey successfully stole a giant box of cheezits from Simon and, with help from others, finished it off in a week.
AWESOME THINGS WE SAID-Megan found that way aw-some Viking hat.
-Todd and Simon refused to spell "awesome" correctly
-Noting that Todd and Simon could not spell "awesome" correctly, Miri created my new favorite word......"Wesome"
-We went through a phase where we said "of ___ own volition" like every other sentence.
-Five words: "Pickety pick! My little nose!"
-The answer to everything was "Your mom" or "Your face"
-We discussed very different meanings of the word “doobie?
-Whitney declared our kitchen table Babylon
"RELATIONSHIPS"-Not only did we all get facebook accounts, we all have outrageous relationships under how we met!
-Jennie decided to marry Jonathan, then Whitney moved in for the kill and Jonathan and Whitney got engaged. (They are all currently single.)
-Whitley was Mrs. Hot 'n Spicy Judd
-Miri agreed to have Todd's babies
-Jennie tried to get Simon to marry her
-Jennie was engaged to Todd
-Geoff tried to steal Jennie away from Todd
-Whitney told Simon she'd pursue him if she wasn't going on a mission
-Geoff and Miri got married, but they had to move to Mexico and change their names because Geoff shot a guy in Texas.
FOOD-We decided that we had no qualms about swapping spit and everyone joined in sharing Jambas, including Jason McGee on his first ever time hanging out with us.
-Simon, Lindsey, and Miri went to Golden Corral because they couldn't decide on anywhere else to go... and Lindsey was afraid of the balloon on her chair and the meat guy hit on Miri
-We went to IHOP to worship pancakes on National Pancake Day, but it was really crowded so we went to Village Inn instead (not Denny's because Lindsey and Miri had gotten sick the last time we went there) and decided that as long as we were eating pancakes it was ok.
- some of us went to Brick Oven after the choir concert and Jamie proceeded to take everyones paper napkin rings and fold them into oragami squares so she could make mike play checkers with her using the table cloth as a game board - and we all stared on in amazement
- also at said dinner miri, lindsey, joel, mike, megan, and jamie reminisced about the crazy/good music they listened to in middle school and high school as it played over the Brick Oven ambience speakers
- lindsey made someone go with her to village inn at least once every two weeks because she craved the french fries.
* My friends and I also often talked about how much we loved "us". This was usually said while laughing at something silly/idiotic/crazy that one of us said/did.
**Also pulling me down into the depths of nostalgia - the recent purchase of a photo/film scanner. Oh yes, soon my blog will be filled with photographic reminiscence. I have big plans for using our old photos. It may take me years to scan them all but it should be worth it in the end. I'm a sucker for preserving memories.
