Snooty Foods Night - Bombay House
We've instituted a Snooty Foods group where we gather together and enjoy "snooty" food. This month was Indian food (sorry Lauren) at Bombay House. We took pictures of us being snooty. Here ya go.

Everybody's naked sometimes.
I'm tempted to change the title of my blog to that little gem of wisdom. Remember it people. Most people pay money for that kind of advice.
In other news, I'm all moved into my apartment. "All moved in" meaning all of my crap is shoved into my new room and now I just have to get it unpacked and organized. Any other time, I would have turned into Lindsey the Unpacking Hermit and organized the heck out of my room, but there were more important tasks at hand this weekend.
First, there were several things I needed in order to unpack/live. The rest of my junk, for example, which was still at Heidi's house. Also, bathroom necessities, shelves, a lamp or two, trash bins, and the like. So Saturday was spent shopping with my Krilifis. Target and Ikea were the places to go based on my initial internet research. I am trying to not spend a lot of money (since I have very little) and checking out items and prices before hand helped me a lot when I was at the store. I bought mostly what I needed (the luxury items maybe added up to $20) and left behind the things that could wait until later. Ikea supplied me with a few dishes (two giant round yellow plates and two green bowls), a 3 pack of pans for $10, a bath rug for $2, a bedside lamp, a bookshelf for $25 (score! by far the best bang for my buck, although I had to settle for white), two trash bins (one for bedroom, one for bath), and a few select picture frames (I can't live much longer without photos of the kiddos plastered all over my room - I'm in severe withdrawal).
So after the shopping and fetching was complete I headed back to my apartment to empty my car. This time I was without help. That means climbing the stairs 8 or so times (not counting the 5 trips I made at Heidi's). I live on the third floor. I just moved from Maryland. My meager little weak sea-level lungs permitted me two trips every hour or so. I just took my time and unpacked while my lungs desperately tried to gather enough air for the next trip. Dri (my new roommate) graciously helped me and cut out two additional trips. I am hoping it doesn't take much longer to acclimate to the elevation - certainly those stairs should help build up my lungs. So once everything was in my room I promptly left it all behind and went to have some fun with Megan and Whitney.
Megan had some friends over and we started watching Willow. When Whitney (who will now be referred to as Whitley because of a reason I'm sure I'll explain at some point) got home from her date, the two of us made a late night Wal-mart run for Halloween costume supplies. I won't go into much detail regarding our costumes until I have all the pictures to post with them, but they are pretty much amazing. It's a group costume and I spent all day after church (seriously, 1pm to 11:30pm) hand crafting our costumes. I still have mine to finish, but Whitley and Megan's are complete except for details. I'm kind of amazed and proud of myself because I did all the sewing by hand. It's in no way professional, but everything will stay together and you can't see the stitching. Also, much of it was done while Megan and Whitney were wearing the costumes. That's right, I just sewed it all while they stood there quite patiently. I can't wait for the finished products to be captured on film. Stay tuned.
While all this sewing and craftiness was going on, Megan and I continued our Halloween themed movie watching month. We've carefully gathered all the movies that have the least bit to do with the supernatural, fantasy, thriller or horror genres for our veiwing pleasure. I owned a lot that fit into these categories which surprised me, I didn't realize I had to many that were appropriate for October. So far we've watched Corpse Bride (for obvious reasons), The Stepford Wives (killer robot/feminist thriller from the 70s)and Truly Madly Deeply (ghost boyfriend/romantic comedy?). Just yesterday we watched Signs (Aliens), The Brothers Grimm (disappearing children and an enchanted evil witch in a tower) and 1408 (John Cusack in a haunted evil hotel room). We have plenty more on our list (including but not limited to What Lies Beneath, Red Eye, Nightmare Before Christmas and Little Shop of Horrors). I'm thinking we need to throw in a viewing of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (for sake of tradition), Wait Until Dark, The Fall (Lee Pace) and maybe even Edward Scissorhands. I realize that is a lot of movie watching, but you know, I have my priorities.
So there you have it. My room is a mess, but it's mine so that's happy. I will get it organized this week and sleep peacefully knowing I'm not a foot away from someone else and I have my own bathroom. Tonight is more costume making and planning and I'm sure another creepy movie viewing.

As if we needed more reason...
Let's get this one thing straight...I don't HATE Coldplay. I just don't get all the hype, never have. I have a few choice Coldplay songs on my iPod but that about covers it. My indifference and confusion (am I the ONLY ONE who isn't getting it?!) probably stems back to being forced to listen to a Coldplay CD almost every day for an entire semester. We're talking hours at a time, the same CD, over and over and over again.
So, it made me very happy to have a conversation with Megan one day regarding a quote Chris Martin made about naming his daughter Apple (can't remember or find the quote but it doesn't matter so much) and then she posted this video which really is just ridiculous. Not to mention the band was on Colbert a bit ago and he was just as spacey and odd and danced just as bad.
Then there was this incredible exchange in the comments of that post between me and Megan's brother:
Lin said...
Actually, I do. Much better. Thank you.
I honestly did try to think of ways to hide or destroy that CD. I even switched it out once with a different CD (oh those precious minutes of relief) to see if it's over playing was from the laziness of everyone not wanting to switch the CD, but I was thwarted. We got one round of the new CD before someone put Coldplay back on it's eternal rotation. I bet you anything that Coldplay CD is still playing in that studio. I really would not be surprised.
So, to add to my reasons why I'm not such a fan of Coldplay here's this little tidbit from MSNBC online:
Building on his band’s anti-rock persona, Chris Martin recently revealed that the members of Coldplay like to spend some quality time together around the sewing machine. “Making clothes together in our studio makes us feel complete,” Chris admitted to the Daily Mirror. “We probably sound like a group of grannies in a knitting circle, but it’s the truth and it gives us some control over our visual identity.”
Really Chris? You make your clothes together? It gives you control over your "visual identity"? Ugh. As if you lose all control when you put on a Hanes T-shirt and some jeans?
In the end, I believe Megan summed it all up in our earlier conversation. What do you expect from a guy who named his daughter "Apple"?

a few items of business
1. MEGAN IS HOME! Not that I can see her, but now I can talk to her on the phone and text her and that makes me happy - because she listens to a whole lot of my craziness and still likes me.
2. I have new readership! Emily Albright and her mom. I will be posting a wedding-related post for them, which sounds weird, but it's not really. I promise.
3. Cristin had her baby, Owen! 4 weeks early! Apparently he was ready to be born. He's in the hospital so he can finish growing and getting ready for the real world - so best wishes and lots of prayers to the Ricks family. He's a cutie!! Congratulations! (and in related news, I got prezzies sent out there just in time for his arrival! When he does come home, I hope they are enjoyed by him and his mommy.)
4. I spent most of my day yesterday with the kiddos. I took K his birthday presents early since I'll be gone this weekend. I can't believe he's 8. Craziness. He and Joshie are way into this Webkins thing - which I'm loving because it's so not as confusing and/or annoying as Pokemon. So he is now the proud owner of a Rotweiler named Steven (a name I chose) and a Gecko named Mark. K's name choices are the best ever - he doesn't waste his time with silly pet names - he goes for the serious people names. Love it. The rest of my time was spent playing pretend and dress ups with the Princess. We had a tea party (during which she remarked, "this is a wonderful tea party") complete with princess dishes, real (and delish) cookies and water instead of tea. I think she likes playing with me because I play all her girlie games with her. And I'm totally fine with that. It was such a fun day. I love those kiddos.
5. I'm going to the beach on Wednesday with one of my bestest pallies, Jamie!! I am so excited and so happy we made this vacation work! See all my exclamation marks?! That's how happy I am. I need a vacation very badly.
6. This is my final point and maybe it should have been first so in case I lost any of you. I need an idea of a name for my projects blog. Something fun but not annoying. Something having to do with me or a nick name of mine (Lindle, Linnie, Lindsey Lou Who, Zizi, Scooter, etc.) that I can put up there as a title so it's not so boring. So, pass along your ideas. I figure who better to ask than the ones who know me so well?
That's all for now. More posts to come soon!

Say Words
I LUUUUURVE this picture of Miri and Megan. Here are the reasons:1. Their faces. Above all, their faces. They are classic happy Miri and Megan faces. Like truly joyous, sincerely happy laughing faces. In fact, I wonder if Miri laughed hard enough to start crying a little. She does that a lot and it usually starts off with this face.
2. The M&M pjs. M&Ms will forever remind me of Megan and Miri. They made it their thing and I will think of them whenever I see something M&M related probably until the day I die. The thought of that makes me happy.
3. Miri's hat. What is that hat? haha. I mean, it's a cute hat, I just like how it's only half on her head. I'm pretty sure I have pictures of myself like that with new Christmas hats.
4. The old apartment. I have so many fond memories of 154. The girls, the quote wall, the horrible couches, loving the horrible couches because we knew there were worse ones out there, the open and welcome feeling. I spent a large portion of my last years of college in this apartment and will always miss the feeling of just walking in there and finding someone to talk to/get a jamba with/watch awesome movies with/etc.
So here's to Megan and Miri who I miss ever so. I heart them. Like, a lot.

say words
Like so many of you, I text. I'm a texter. I don't text like the kids text nowadays with all of your fyi, btw, bff, neway, n, y, etc. craziness, but it's safe to say that texting played a big part in helping me maintain friendships after I moved back home. It kept the lines of communication open (this was before everyone started blogging) and it kept things simple and relatively up to date. It's nice to know that you can always send a text whether it's just to say hello or to tell some urgent news or just to say "a hug".
Being a texter and having the friends I have, I have received quite a few random and funny texts. Being a sentimental sap who misses her friends, I have a bunch saved on my phone. I'm going to share those with you. Some of them stretch back to the summer I was still in Provo (July 2006) - that's two years ago, pretty much about the same time I bought the phone I have now. There's no reason why I've saved more than others from certain people (Megan and Curt) besides that those two people text me most often (other than Lauren, Alyssa and Christy - who mostly text me about everyday stuff like lunch and where to meet and what we are doing Friday night).
Miri:
"I'm pretty sure I was just groped by a girl." - from a concert (one of the ones I have kept the longest because it makes me laugh a lot)
Crinners:
"Oh honey...I'm gonna get get get u drunk. Get u love drunk off my hump! So...watcha gonna do w/ all that *** inside them jeans?!" - that would be a quote from "My Humps" by The Black Eyed Peas, which according to Will Ferrel is "provocative"
Curt: (disclaimer - Curt sends really funny random texts that make me pretty happy. Most of the ones I've kept have no context anymore or are inside jokes)
"It's a crowd pleaser."
"It's not my fault im so romantic!"
"My favorite's Gouda! (ha, my T9 didn't know how to spell Gouda)"
"I'll just throw my poem away then :)"
"I'm in line at graduation and i want to see it too - but i don't have cable yet." (yeah - he was texting me while in line at graduation AND from his sister's wedding while I was in MD watching HSM2)
"I'm fake standing in line at my sis wedding reception." "It sucks." "Having to fake liking it is the worst."
"It's okay, we're all in this together."
"Well sometimes life is hard, just not today."
"I kinda hate troy right now." (that would be a couple days after graduation when he got the chance to watch HSM2)
"I'm bored at work." (this was when I was trying not to text him because I was bored but knew he was working - like the exact same moment.)
"You're like my non-identical identical twin." "I think we should be on tv. and you should move back so we won't be bored anymore."
"You matter"
Megan:
"[Miri] just walked in and said, 'why is Prince William on my bed?'"
"Hehe. I like you."
"Hey, I'll be next door in the book house. We'll be sharing a wall so we have more space."
"Indeed. But we'll huddle for warmth and read about Edward and the cold will be more bearable."
"Well, way to look for meaning in crappiness. I'm proud of you."
"Quote of the day, from our dishwasher at work who is at least 70 - Marilyn: What are you doing, Jim? Jim: Whoever I can and the easy ones twice."
"Did I already tell you about seeing James McAvoy on Leno and hearing his amazing real accent or did I just think about it?"
Ben:
"I'd stick a peach pit in my bum for you."
"I miss you too, Mr. Lindle."
Krissie:
"delirium because of the amount of raging emotion pulsing in your veins from the closeness in proximity to a certain other party."
"I LOVE YOU"
There are more that I wish I had kept - especially some from Miri and my sister. Lauren texts me so much though I can't possibly save any of them. I like the ones telling me how cute my nephews are. Things along the line of letting me know that Monkey is singing his Jesus song, reading his Zizi book or Bug needs Zizi's "magic" arms.
So there you have it, my very random and funny friends send me very random and funny texts. I love it. They rock.

How long?
Last night I texted Megan to say goodbye before she left for our beloved England. I asked her if it was odd that I am going to miss her even though I never see her now as it is. But we text a lot. She gets all my random statements/jokes/crises via text. NOW WHAT DO I DO?! I told her I would just have to email her whenever I felt the urge to text her.
So how long do you think I could last before wanting to text Megan considering I finished texting her around midnight east coast time last night and slept until 9am east coast time this morning?
Yeah. The answer is not long at all. About an hour and a half to be exact. I was making a play list and I was proud of myself for pulling up The Arcade Fire to give them a try. I thought - I should text Megan and tell her about all of this, it will make her happy. Then I remembered. Then I realized that the internet was down!! DOWN!!! How could this be?!!? Why!?!
So yeah. That's why it's 2pm and you are just hearing about this now. bah humbug.
So, basically I'm weak and I'm addicted to texting. But I'm also okay with that.

current obsession
iTunes store - celebrity playlists.
ever wondered what music your favorite celebrities are listening to? well, i've looked and the truth is, a lot of them are listening to Belle&Sebastian. this means they have good taste.
i am now addicted to searching these lists. i bought five songs tonight...two to preview and suggest to Megan for London (All the Umbrellas in London by The Magnetic Fields and Up the Junction by Squeeze - very British, enjoy).
so basically i'm in music love at the mo'.

Blame Megan
Last night she texted me about James McAvoy and his dreamy Scottish accent. We can't understand why he isn't always playing a Scottish person - of course then he never could have been Mr. Tumnus, in love with Jane Austen, Robbie Turner, or the hot American piano man in Penelope - all roles I LOVED him in. Seriously though, I'm a sucker for an accent - even when he does the British ones. So here's a funny thing he said during a recent interview for Wanted:
"Hopefully, the next thing I do will not be action based, but likewise won't be Jane Austen-y and won't be 'Atonement'-y and won't be 'Last King'-y, and won't be anything that I've done before," McAvoy says. "I just want to keep trying to do new things."
The funny part? The fact he said "Jane Austen-y," "Atonement-y," and "Last King-y" and the fact that they printed it just like that.
Also blame Megan for going to London without me. I'm sure there will be a few posts regarding things I would like to say to her but can't because she doesn't have a cell phone or isn't on IM. Someday, though, the two of us will go together and it will be great fun. I missed The Globe the first time around - but I'm pretty sure that's something that would be fun times 10 with Megan (as opposed to just fun) due to her incredible love and knowledge of all things Shakespearean.
Also, James McAvoy does a pretty spot on Ryan Seacrest impersonation:
And here's a happy surprise! James McAvoy was on The Daily Show Monday night (which I listen to the day after online). That should make work a little more enjoyable.
"Hopefully, the next thing I do will not be action based, but likewise won't be Jane Austen-y and won't be 'Atonement'-y and won't be 'Last King'-y, and won't be anything that I've done before," McAvoy says. "I just want to keep trying to do new things."The funny part? The fact he said "Jane Austen-y," "Atonement-y," and "Last King-y" and the fact that they printed it just like that.
Also blame Megan for going to London without me. I'm sure there will be a few posts regarding things I would like to say to her but can't because she doesn't have a cell phone or isn't on IM. Someday, though, the two of us will go together and it will be great fun. I missed The Globe the first time around - but I'm pretty sure that's something that would be fun times 10 with Megan (as opposed to just fun) due to her incredible love and knowledge of all things Shakespearean.

i just watched this again. it's like a train wreck...can't. turn. away. must. watch.
i'm glad i'm not alone in my dislike for coldplay. they used to play a coldplay cd in the printing studio on campus...that was it. the only cd played for an entire semester. i thought of accidentally dropping the cd in ink and/or acid but figured that would probably make me seem a little crazy.
Lin, The tameness of your Coldplay CD destruction fantasies is what makes you seem a little crazy. Think about a trap thrower. Think about a shotgun. Think about a shiny disc sailing out into the sunlit air and then seeing it explode through your one open eye and raining down a million glittering shards. The slight bruise on your shoulder will soon fade and in the meantime will remind you of your intense satisfaction over your good works.
Close your eyes and picture it. Feel better now?
