Log!

I have lots of fun Christmas related posts coming up - but I needed to interrupt the holiday festivities to share this "commercial" from Ren and Stimpy.

Last night we were playing a fun new game (Pop5 I think it's called - a Cranium pop culture game) that reminded me of this little gem from the Ren and Stimpy show when I was younger. For some reason, I have always remembered parts of this song and I sang it for my friends last night.

"It's Log! It's Log! It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's Log! It's Log! It's better than bad, it's good! Everyone wants a Log. Everyone needs a Log. Log, Log, Log!"

I just read through my Twilight post and some of it doesn't make sense (like, um, the first sentence haha) but I know you will all forgive me because I have never made such dumb mistakes before and I'm exhausted. Also, so tired that I'm too lazy to fix it.

Also, Pushing Daisies cancelled!!???!? It's really bothering me. That's amazing quality television. I think I might raid the ABC offices and give them a list of all the other crap shows they could cancel in order to let Daisies live. Just like Bella said (twice) last night, dying in the place of someone you love is a good way to go. Of course I think what she did was stupid, but how noble would it be for those other crap shows to sacrifice their budgets to the yummy goodness that is Pushing Daisies? Here's hoping something will happen to change the mind of those ABC execs.

Because you know, if they don't change their minds, I'll still be spending my Wednesday nights with Lee Pace (at this point I would like to add the first season of Pushing Daisies on dvd to my Christmas List as well as Wonderfalls, The Fall and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) and shunning ABC broadcasting.

I might cry. What will I do without the Piemaker in my life? Seriously?! Not even a full season two? Who do these TV people think they are? Do they not realize the amazingness of this show? Sad, sad day.

I have now watched/listened to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog many more times than one person should. But I can't get the songs out of my head and everytime I watch it I find something new and funny and great.

Like the title of this post...it's a little nugget of greatness hidden in the duet at the end of the "A Man's Gotta Do" song at the end of Act One.

Actually, she sings it right about here...at this scene in this photo, which is an odd coincidence because I found that photo last week.

Just thought I would reiterate how much I love this show.

Tim Gunn learning how to say "holla at ya boy" on last nights P.R. (the clip only shows him saying it once, after learning the phrase and having the word "holla" spelled out to him).

Also, I'm totally loving Kenley. She's totally wearing a fascinator...which I am on the hunt for and looking for a place to wear one.

I love her personal look (classy) and the dresses she's made and there is currently no sign of crazy (of course we are only on episode 3). But Suede (who speaks in third person...always. "Suede is tired, but Suede is okay." ugh.) and Blayne (tanning addict) bring enough crazy to the show to cover everyone. Suede at least makes some alright clothes.

When she was making this dress I thought...that could go horribly wrong. It's very 80s/grandma and then she added the toole in purple...but I actually really liked the way it turned out. Would any of us wear it? Probably not. Like the judges said, you'd have to be that tall and that skinny to pull it off.

Last week she knocked out this beauty using completely green fabrics.

If you watch the show, you'll know that pretty much every designer was given this same fabric, but she actually made it beautiful whereas a lot of the others were kind of sloppy.

Anyway, that's what I think about the state of Project Runway at the mo'. If you aren't watching, you should be. Perfect summer fare.

Colbert!

This is a clip from last night's show. Colbert has a Ben and Jerry's flavor named after him (Americone Dream) and they have also just named a flavor after Elton John. I share this because Stephen Colbert breaks when he says "I assume that's some sort of English treat made from candied lamb cartilage" while referring to butter brickle. He kind of has a hard time keeping a straight face for most of the sketch. Also, it makes me want some Half Baked.

First of all, I like that Mike and Miri have discovered the awesomeness of one Mr. Stephen T. Colbert. He really is funny. I promise.

You just have to rememeber it is a character and admire the amazing job Colbert does in staying in character so seamlessly. He rarely cracks - and when he does it's hilarious. I can't even imagine saying some of the things he says with such conviction and maintaining a straight face. Wow.

Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the following statement made on The Colbert Report: Equations are the devil's sentences!
It's like he knows my inner most thoughts...from high school at least.




Secondly, I had to have an MRI for some jaw problems I've been having. Have you had one of those? Not fun. You can't move a muscle for like 30 minutes. That is hard! AND it is tiny in there. I think I am a little claustrophobic. I didn't think it would bug me, but I had to sing hymns in my head to keep my mind off the small space and loud noises. ick.

That's what the machine looks like. Only the one I was in wasn't as new or nice looking and the room wasn't as inviting. It was kind of dark and, honestly, a little disorganized. The nurse was nice though so that was a plus. Anyway, avoid MRIs...they suck.

Churchy things to blog about

I was just listening to the Colbert Report and thought this interview was interesting. It's Bishop N.T. Wright of the Anglican Church (in a snazzy pink shirt) talking about his new book which is apparently about an "ancient dogma" regarding heaven, resurrection, and a "new heaven." He basically talks about the importance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in terms of how it effects our afterlife and that after we go to heaven for a time then everything will be "recreated." Just watch it. It's obviously a lot to fit into a short interview, but in terms of what we are taught in the LDS church I just found it interesting.



I find interviews and conversations like this to be so interesting. It strengthens my testimony and reminds me what I believe in and why I believe in it. It makes me more confident in my knowledge of the gospel as well. I know that the church is true! I know about the plan of salvation. I know that we have a Heavenly Father who still offers us revelation and scripture and speaks to us through the prophet, Thomas S. Monson. I know that Joseph Smith saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and I'm so thankful for the blessings that experience gives me in my life today. It really is so amazing.

Last night at institute we were reading the end of Matthew chapter 3 and the Joseph Smith Translation of those last verses. This is right after Jesus is baptized by John. The JST clarifies the account in Matthew and describes the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost in three distinct forms - three different personages appearing in three separate states all for one, unified purpose. He also had us read D&C 130:22 which he likes because it is the most clear description of the godhead available and it can open up a conversation that directly leads to sharing the story of Joseph Smith in the Sacred Grove.

There was also a non-member in our class last night (there are actually quite a few this summer, which has added so much to the class) who was raised in another religion. She really seemed to embrace everything the teacher was saying - even though it got kind of deep. It's amazing to sit and watch her ask questions and see how excited she is about all of this and to be able to relate some of it to what she has been taught the rest of her life. She told me that going to her previous church was just how she was raised. That's what her family did. She didn't really feel any strong connection to the faith or feel like she belonged there. But she seems so genuinely eager to learn about the gospel now. It's fun to see and it's fun to talk to her about it. Her outlook is so new and refreshing.

I'm not the only one who wants to litter.

What is annoying to me is how environmentalism is everywhere and preaches to you like you’re some kind of idiot. Do you remember when NBC “went green” for a week? What, you don’t watch a lot of TV? Let me fill you in. For one entire week, the Thursday night line-up (from My Name is Earl to the Office, 30 Rock, Scrubs, and ER) talked about ways we can save the environment. Even the peacock at the bottom of the screen was all green. (Hmmm, not the color of the rainbow, but one singular color. I’m sure there’s some symbolism there). The writers wrote little sub-plots that incorporated tips for all of us common-folk to use in our daily lives. Our favorite characters talked about how much energy was saved by changing a simple light-bulb or how riding a bike or taking the bus to work saves both money and the WORLD. The entire world. It was pathetic and so heavy-handed that its infomercial script took me out of the story. (Only 30 Rock really pulled it off effortlessly, but that’s because Tina Fey’s a genius). It made me want to litter. I didn’t, but I totally thought about it.

I believe the above mentioned "green" week happened in November while I was in Utah eating Brick Oven take out and Giant Journaling with the besties. I also believe I stated more than once that I was so annoyed with the constant pressure to "go green" that it was actually having the opposite effect on me. I am pretty sure I told Miri and Megan it made me want to go outside and litter.

I'm glad I wasn't alone in my desire to do so. I think NBC missed the mark on that one if their attempt to encourage environmental awareness actually made people want to leave their homes for the sole purpose of littering as if by doing so they would be saying "Take that NBC!"

I kind of dislike her more for this.

"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization" decided against competing, Heigl said in a written statement provided by her publicist, Melissa Kates, who was contacted by the AP.

"In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials," added Heigl. She plays Dr. Izzie Stevens on "Grey's Anatomy," which slipped in the ratings this past season but remained a top 10 show.

Who does that? It just seems so ungrateful and self-centered. It's one thing to have personal feelings and private conversations regarding your distaste for something happening in your workplace (which is what the TV show is for her), it's another to issue a public statement which is obviously aimed at specific people (in this case, the writers).

Now I've heard she's wanted out of the show and this could be her way of making enough waves to do that - but it's kind of back handed. And seriously, starring in two movies ("Knocked Up" and "27 Dresses") that did alright, but should in no way be considered Blockbusters or Classics (they made money - but I'm confident that it was not solely because of Ms. Heigl's capabilities as an actress - in fact I didn't like her at all in 27 Dresses - I liked James Marsden. That's it.)

And seriously, if she wasn't happy with the writing before...there's no way she's going to like what's in store next season. There's nothing worse than insulting the people who are responsible for your image - the people who actually made it possible for you to be nominated for an Emmy, because at the moment, the only other movies I can remember her starring in are "My Father the Hero" and "Wish Upon a Star" (which, incidentally, I just looked up on IMDB and I must say that she was also in The Ringer, which is actually a funny movie that I own, but also didn't like her in).

Anyway, that bugged me. I'm just not a fan of hers.

TWO HOURS. Seriously. TWO HOURS. ugh.

I pretty much ignored the first half of this show. I don't care about people who were kicked off. I especially didn't want to hear Kristy Lee Cook again. And David Hernandez seemed a lot more stripper-like than I remember him. His dance moves were...um...provocative? Icky is a better fit actually.

I liked the Gladys Knight thing. That made me laugh. And I have some things to say regarding Robert Downey Jr., but that will have to wait for a later post.

Simon's comments made at the end were fantastic. I like that he admitted his harshness from last night and apologized about his ending comments to DC. I actually have a little respect for Simon now. Like 2% instead of 0%.

DAVID COOK JUST WON! YES! YES! YES!

All is right in the American Idol world. And he's crying. How sweet. I like him 10 times more right now. I hope all that eyeliner they have on him is waterproof.

Too bad he has to sing the crappy contest-winning song. They are always so cheesy. Blech. I still like his voice though.

David A. looks sad. Poor guy. They were both equally deserving. Although David A. has a lot of time head of him to be successful. I'm sure they'll both have good careers.

And now I'm exhausted and my cat is meowing at my door. I'm off to let her inside and then to bed.
