Maybe there's something wrong with me?

So, unlike the rest of the world, I don't find Hugh Jackman or Daniel Craig attractive. I know. You are now saying, "Lindsey, are you SERIOUS? Have you gone blind? What is your problem!?" And I am saying. "'Tis true, my friends. They do absolutely nothing for me."

I can understand why others might find them attractive (Daniel Craig moreso than Hugh Jackman) - maybe if you are into "rugged" men, but in my head "rugged" means "something is wrong with their face so they cannot be classified as classically handsome." Does that make me a horrible person?

I just feel like even when Hugh Jackman is all dirtied up and unshaven, he still looks like he just got a mani/pedi and his teeth whitened. Daniel Craig does a better job at looking beaten up and he has nice eyes, he's just not my cup of tea. Hugh Jackman sings show tunes. I mean, I'm not saying real men can't sing show tunes - that is perfectly acceptable - just not when you are Hugh Jackman. You've already got the mani/pedi/white teeth thing going against you, it's just not smart to pair that with show tunes.

I liked Hugh Jackman alright as wolverine and in Kate and Leopold, but those are both kind of silly characters -I'm not supposed to take him seriously. If I am supposed to, it's impossible. It's just not going to happen. I can take Daniel Craig seriously because he is James Bond and well, that's pretty much all he needs to be. I haven't exactly loved the other movies he's been in (although Megan says I need to see Invasion) but he's a good Bond and I'm happy with that.

So, this post really has no point, just had to get all this out there. Do with it what you will.

As if we needed more reason...

Let's get this one thing straight...I don't HATE Coldplay. I just don't get all the hype, never have. I have a few choice Coldplay songs on my iPod but that about covers it. My indifference and confusion (am I the ONLY ONE who isn't getting it?!) probably stems back to being forced to listen to a Coldplay CD almost every day for an entire semester. We're talking hours at a time, the same CD, over and over and over again.

So, it made me very happy to have a conversation with Megan one day regarding a quote Chris Martin made about naming his daughter Apple (can't remember or find the quote but it doesn't matter so much) and then she posted this video which really is just ridiculous. Not to mention the band was on Colbert a bit ago and he was just as spacey and odd and danced just as bad.

Then there was this incredible exchange in the comments of that post between me and Megan's brother:

i'm glad i'm not alone in my dislike for coldplay. they used to play a coldplay cd in the printing studio on campus...that was it. the only cd played for an entire semester. i thought of accidentally dropping the cd in ink and/or acid but figured that would probably make me seem a little crazy.

Lin, The tameness of your Coldplay CD destruction fantasies is what makes you seem a little crazy. Think about a trap thrower. Think about a shotgun. Think about a shiny disc sailing out into the sunlit air and then seeing it explode through your one open eye and raining down a million glittering shards. The slight bruise on your shoulder will soon fade and in the meantime will remind you of your intense satisfaction over your good works.

Close your eyes and picture it. Feel better now?

I honestly did try to think of ways to hide or destroy that CD. I even switched it out once with a different CD (oh those precious minutes of relief) to see if it's over playing was from the laziness of everyone not wanting to switch the CD, but I was thwarted. We got one round of the new CD before someone put Coldplay back on it's eternal rotation. I bet you anything that Coldplay CD is still playing in that studio. I really would not be surprised.

So, to add to my reasons why I'm not such a fan of Coldplay here's this little tidbit from MSNBC online:

Building on his band’s anti-rock persona, Chris Martin recently revealed that the members of Coldplay like to spend some quality time together around the sewing machine. “Making clothes together in our studio makes us feel complete,” Chris admitted to the Daily Mirror. “We probably sound like a group of grannies in a knitting circle, but it’s the truth and it gives us some control over our visual identity.”

Really Chris? You make your clothes together? It gives you control over your "visual identity"? Ugh. As if you lose all control when you put on a Hanes T-shirt and some jeans?

In the end, I believe Megan summed it all up in our earlier conversation. What do you expect from a guy who named his daughter "Apple"?

People I Like to Watch

So far I've covered John Cusack, Christian Bale, Audrey Hepburn and Kirsten Dunst.

As an addition, I'm going to explain a little more about the Kirsten Dunst thing. She can bug me a lot in the wrong role, but she has done a good job picking movies in the past where her skill matches exactly what the role calls for. Kind of like Keanu Reeves. Not a good actor, but he was perfect in The Matrix because of the type of character Neo was supposed to be. Hopefully that makes sense.

Now on to more important matters.

Matt Damon. Ah. Matt Damon. I go back and forth between which I prefer (Matt or Ben?) but I think Matt probably stands out and, not gonna lie, it's totally because Ben dated JLO. Although I really like the current version of Ben Affleck. It's like he's finally an adult...and he married Jennifer Garner.


Anyway, on with the list.

Movies I have seen: Mystic Pizza, Field of Dreams (apparently he was an extra?), School Ties, Courage Under Fire, Chasing Amy, The Rainmaker, Good Will Hunting, Saving Private Ryan, Rounders, Dogma, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Titan A.E., The Legend of Bagger Vance, Finding Forrester, Ocean's Eleven, The Majestic, The Bourne Identity, Stuck on You, Jersey Girl, The Bourne Supremacy, Ocean's Twelve, The Brothers Grimm, and The Bourne Ultimatum.

I suppose I will probably see Ocean's Thirteen at some point. And I must mention the episode of Will & Grace he was on (he was pretending to be gay so he could audition for a gay chorus that was traveling to Europe and Jack makes Grace hit on him to "expose" him, but the chorus still chooses him over Jack - It's a hilarious episode - he sings "Let's Hear it for the Boys"). Again, I'll also mention that a lot of the R rated were on TV and therefore not ones I would necessarily recommend.

What I will recommend is The Rainmaker, if you haven't seen it, you should because it's good and he's very good in it.

That movie leads me to the next actress.

Claire Danes.

Movies I have seen: Little Women (apparently I really like the actors in this movie), How to Make an American Quilt, To Gillian on her 37th Birthday, Romeo and Juliet, Princess Mononoke, The Rainmaker, Les Miserables, The Mod Squad, Brokedown Palace, Stage Beauty, The Family Stone, Evening and Stardust.

AND - of course, the reason why I love her - My So Called Life. Oh how I love that show. and Jordan Catalano.

I really love that version of Romeo and Juliet. I had a little shakespeare crush on that play in 8th and 9th grade and read it several times then the movie came out somewhere in the middle of all that and I loved it even more. I like how it's filmed and I like that they didn't just adapt the story and make a cheesy teen film (ala 10 Things I Hate About You and She's the Man - although I like those movies too, for completely different reasons), but they kept the Shakespeare and they created an amazing soundtrack for it. I really do just love this movie.

I also like her because she kind of just does stuff. She acted when she was younger, then took a little break and went to school and did a couple of smaller films and now she just stays really low key and seems to choose movies she enjoys.

um...wow.

I saw The Dark Knight last night. It was scary. And awesome. All at the same time.



I don't really know what to say about it. Heath Ledger was amazing (I am purposefully not posting Joker photos because he freaked me out enough that I don't want to see that face when I look at my own blog). I'm kind of curious to see what will happen next...where do they go from here? Do they go anywhere?

I spent much of the movie hiding in my hoodie with my fingers in my ears and my eyes partially covered. Not just because some parts were a little scary, but because of the anticipation of what was going to happen. The filming was amazing. The movie could have ended much earlier than it did, but I was actually happy it didn't. I liked the extra bit of action and I liked seeing the "message" of the movie come full circle.

I read a review (Eric D. Snider's I believe) that talked about what the three main characters (Batman, The Joker, and Harvey Dent) represent in terms of the theme of chaos/order. I think a lot of what was scary to me (other than the mere existence of the Joker) was all of that underlying stuff. You sit there thinking, "this guy will literally do ANYTHING just because he can AND he is enjoying it." He is completely and utterly unpredictable in the creepiest way possible. That means there is no guessing what will happen next. It kind of makes you part of Gotham - you feel like a sitting duck waiting to see what horrible thing you will be faced with next and trying to really figure out who can be trusted. Obviously, we have the added advantage of knowing that Batman really is a good guy trying to save people and desperately trying to stick to his own moral code.

Not to mention there were some cool stunts...and Christian Bale is extremely good looking.

The Barnacle

Yes. Neil Patrick Harris aka Barney Stinson aka Doogie Howser, MD is also Dr. Horrible. He has a fantastic singing voice and a good sense of humor. He also manages to dress nicely, play a womanizing jerk, and kind of make me forget he's batting for the other team while singing show tunes. Talk about image control. Here's a couple clips. The first one I've posted before but it's good and I love it and it's my blog so there. The second is NPH with Kelly Ripa talking about how her son's teacher is in love with NPH. The third makes me happy because I ALWAYS sing this theme song...ask Krissie. I can't help but start singing along with it during Monday Night Suit Up.

People I like to watch

I stole this idea from Miri. It's a good way of categorizing things. I was going to make a list of movies I love, but it's hard to put them into genres and such. It's much easier going by actors you love and mentioning the movies they've made that you like. I'll do one actor and one actress at a time. I will specify whether my Top 5s are in order or not and the italicized movies are ones I own.

I'm starting with John Cusack because he was on Miri's list and I love him even though he's a good 20 years my senior. I blame it all on Lloyd Dobbler and Lane Meyer.

That's 18 movies. He's made over 50 movies. Starting the year I was born. It's kind of funny and odd when you put it in those terms.

Top 5: (in honor of High Fidelity, of course) Better Off Dead, Say Anything, One Crazy Summer, Grosse Point Blank, High Fidelity. Anastasia would be number six. His voice makes Dimitri that much more attractive...in terms of cartoon good looks.

Audrey Hepburn. It's obvious I would start with her. Although there isn't really one male actor I like more than others - I love Audrey Hepburn more than any other actress. She was the first actress I "connected" with when I was younger - the first female celebrity I truly admired for reasons more than just looks.

I heart Christian Bale

This is no secret. He had me at [insert any line from Newsies]. Here's a funny thing about him though. He completely commits to whatever character he is playing...so much so that he will do interviews in the corresponding accent. This one kind of sounds New York-ish, but gets a little iffy at the end. I rememeber when he was doing interviews for Batman Begins he never used his regular (hot) accent and it was sad. Still. Love him.

Blame Megan

Last night she texted me about James McAvoy and his dreamy Scottish accent. We can't understand why he isn't always playing a Scottish person - of course then he never could have been Mr. Tumnus, in love with Jane Austen, Robbie Turner, or the hot American piano man in Penelope - all roles I LOVED him in. Seriously though, I'm a sucker for an accent - even when he does the British ones. So here's a funny thing he said during a recent interview for Wanted:

"Hopefully, the next thing I do will not be action based, but likewise won't be Jane Austen-y and won't be 'Atonement'-y and won't be 'Last King'-y, and won't be anything that I've done before," McAvoy says. "I just want to keep trying to do new things."

The funny part? The fact he said "Jane Austen-y," "Atonement-y," and "Last King-y" and the fact that they printed it just like that.Also blame Megan for going to London without me. I'm sure there will be a few posts regarding things I would like to say to her but can't because she doesn't have a cell phone or isn't on IM. Someday, though, the two of us will go together and it will be great fun. I missed The Globe the first time around - but I'm pretty sure that's something that would be fun times 10 with Megan (as opposed to just fun) due to her incredible love and knowledge of all things Shakespearean.

You May Remember Me From Such Posts as...

Here's what I've been thinking about:

Does anyone else have a hard time believing that the children of the stars are just like every other kid? You read stories about stars going shopping, taking cab rides, interacting with other famous peoples children, going to the park, etc. but I don't automatically think of them the same way as I would if I were to hear the same story from a friend of mine and her children. Why is that? Because we know their parents have tons of money, work ridiculous hours and probably have a great deal of help in raising their children? There are some stars that it is easy to believe they spend a good deal of time raising their kids on their own (Michelle Williams and Jennifer Garner/Ben Affleck) because they are seen less at events and in the movies. Of course this is all perception. I just wonder what life is really like for some of those kids. I'm sure they can have anything they want, but it comes at what seems to be a pretty big cost.

My jaw hurts. I did just have my teeth cleaned so I had to have my mouth open for a while - but I've never been so uncomfortable during a cleaning before - not even the three hour cleaning I had post braces removal (we had to get rid of all the glue on my teeth from two years of braces). We had to keep resting - and I was pushing myself as far as I could go. It wasn't necessarily painful, just very very uncomfortable. Like I could feel the muscles in my jaw tightening up. It's weird to have to stop and consciously remind myself to relax my jaw and separate my teeth.

The Colbert Report kills me. Seriously. So funny. There was a clip the other day where Colbert took the Canadian Hockey Night theme song and made it more "American." This entailed waving an American flag, then waving the flag and eating a hot dog, then waving the flag, eating a hot dog and waving a gun around - then he started talking about "patriotic" things which somehow ended up being about punching a beaver in the face. This is the kind of stuff that really can make me laugh.

Alyssa also makes me laugh. That's my friend. She is awesome. She has this laugh that she uses when someone says something that is supposed to be funny, something they think is funny but everyone else just kind of smiles and nods. She kind of does this pity laugh - but I don't think very many people pick up on it because they don't know how she laughs when she really thinks something is funny. All of that makes me laugh - although I'm still not laughing at the lame joke, I'm laughing at Alyssa's pity laugh. For the most part, though, the person telling the lame joke has no idea we aren't laughing at their joke so I think it's a win-win-win type of deal.

This personal review of Twilight written by a boy I don't know who read the book made me laugh. It also makes me love blogging even more because these are thoughts I would not have otherwise come across. My favorite part,

By this point I was welcome to walk away mid-conversation, because whether I stayed or not, the girls would quickly become completely oblivious to my existence. They’d get all caught up in imagining their bloodthirsty yet sensitive Adonis of the walking dead showing up in their bedrooms in the middle of the night to sweep them off their feet and then carry them into the woods so he could blow tenderly upon their necks. It became very apparent during this week that I cannot compare to a 6 foot tall, stone-jawed 200-year-old vampire who looks 17, sparkles in the sun and has a breath that smells more delicious than a vat of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies slathered in liquid pheromones.

Awesome. The review is what you would expect and a lot of the same stuff you hear from boys who ventured into the world of Twilight - it was an okay book, but let's just be clear that you will never find a real Edward. No one is that perfect...or, you know, a vampire.

I've never been one to get all fanatical about things. There are things I like a lot. Things I will go out of my way for. Things I will get VERY excited about. But I've always liked that I wasn't one of those girls who cried at the mere thought of being within 100 feet of their favorite boy-bander, musician, actor, person portraying a fictional character who has now become the embodiment of that character, etc. I can keep my composure. I only whisper excitedly about the possible presence of a celebrity (usually more obscure than most) or point awkwardly while forgetting the name of said celebrity. Total composure.

I kept the volume of my car radio on an odd number yesterday. Nothing like improving yourself, I always say.

I did a really nerdy thing this week. I picked up on a game of Sims2, which I occasionally break out when I feel the need to ignore other, more important (read: real) things. I usually play it for a couple of days, progress in the life of some random character then focus on real life again. This week, I totally created a new neighborhood. and characters. based off of characters from books. I can't believe I'm confessing this...we'll just call it a step forward in my quest to be a more truthful blogger. That's right, folks, so far I have created the Pevensie children, part of the Cullen clan, Bella and Charlie, and a few others stuck in there. I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this, but I'm probably the most secretly ashamed person to do this. haha. Oh well. Now, if you could just instantly forget that I've shared this little snippet. Mucho thanks.

This is one of my more random (and long) train-of-thought posts so I best be moving on. I don't like ending on that note, but what can you do?

I kind of dislike her more for this.

"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization" decided against competing, Heigl said in a written statement provided by her publicist, Melissa Kates, who was contacted by the AP.

"In addition, I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials," added Heigl. She plays Dr. Izzie Stevens on "Grey's Anatomy," which slipped in the ratings this past season but remained a top 10 show.

Who does that? It just seems so ungrateful and self-centered. It's one thing to have personal feelings and private conversations regarding your distaste for something happening in your workplace (which is what the TV show is for her), it's another to issue a public statement which is obviously aimed at specific people (in this case, the writers).

Now I've heard she's wanted out of the show and this could be her way of making enough waves to do that - but it's kind of back handed. And seriously, starring in two movies ("Knocked Up" and "27 Dresses") that did alright, but should in no way be considered Blockbusters or Classics (they made money - but I'm confident that it was not solely because of Ms. Heigl's capabilities as an actress - in fact I didn't like her at all in 27 Dresses - I liked James Marsden. That's it.)

And seriously, if she wasn't happy with the writing before...there's no way she's going to like what's in store next season. There's nothing worse than insulting the people who are responsible for your image - the people who actually made it possible for you to be nominated for an Emmy, because at the moment, the only other movies I can remember her starring in are "My Father the Hero" and "Wish Upon a Star" (which, incidentally, I just looked up on IMDB and I must say that she was also in The Ringer, which is actually a funny movie that I own, but also didn't like her in).

Anyway, that bugged me. I'm just not a fan of hers.

best thing i've heard all day

Now Featuring...

He's single now. That's what made me happy this week. Because he's attainable? No. Because I thought his gf was bad for him/ugly/a horrible person? Not at all, in fact, she seemed to be very nice and pretty. Because it makes more sense for him to be the quintessential bachelor? Yes.

Also. I feel a little bad that my initial thought was, "oh. good." when I read the article proclaiming their break up. But just a little.

Really?

I came across the following while browsing the internet. I can't say I was a huge fan of Katherine Heigl in the first place - sure she is a fine actress, but something about her just kind of bugged me. Like she tries too hard maybe? After reading this, though, my opinion of her took a hit.

Though she grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints, Katherine Heigl says she's "too lazy" too keep up the faith. "I still love the theology of the Mormon religion and I think it is a wonderful way to grow up," the "Knocked Up" actress said in a quote posted to ContactMusic.com. "But I think any real commitment to religion takes time, effort and energy. I just got really lazy, and it's hard to get yourself up on a Sunday morning."


"Too lazy"? Really? I know she is no longer a practicing member of the Church, but to actually use a public forum to talk about this and to say that it was just laziness on her part seems to trivialize the Mormon faith...at least in my opinion. I agree that commitment to a religion takes time - I would even say that commitment to the Mormon religion takes more time than most. I also agree that it's hard to get yourself up on Sunday mornings. But think about it this way: She is an actress. She works on TV. That means she works a set schedule for months and gets a summer hiatus during which she works. Acting and keeping that schedule (along with any appearances and/or interviews you may be obligated to do) takes time, effort and energy. Also, with a schedule like that, I'm sure it's just as difficult to get up on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.

So what is she really saying? What is she really telling the world? She loves the theology and she thinks it's a wonderful way to grow up - but it's just such hard work? Phooey.

It's not that I am placing judgment in terms of her no longer attending church. She can believe in whatever she wants to believe in. That's totally fine. I just do not like how this statement sounds. Again, I feel that it trivializes something dear to my heart and simply wish she would not give such lame excuses. Just thought I would put that out there. If you love the theology - don't trivialize it during an interview that will be posted for the entire world to see.
